Know the difference between a CM1 and a hearM1

A sweet women approached our product table at Legacy Five's Memorial Day Celebration.  After looking everything over, she asked, "Do you have any CM1s?"  Our staff kindly responded that we didn't have any CM1's.  They had never heard of a  CM1.  Neither had I.  At  that  point the lady declared, "I have five of Ken's CM1s."  My sister likes the hearM1s, but I like the CM1s.  Suddenly I understood.  There were two kinds of products on our table.  DVDs (see em ones) and CDs (hear em ones) Once we understood the language that was being spoken we sold several CM1s. 

The best selling book "The five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman is based on the premise that even married couples must discover the "love language" of their spouse and use it.   

It doesn't matter whether you are loving, preaching, selling DVDs or cars, training puppies, or training children.   Excellent communicators know that if you want to communicate you must have a grasp of the language your audience speaks. 

Interview vs Conversation

Every month I set aside one or two days to do radio interviews.  I have to be honest. MOST of the time, this is not my favorite use of time.  Today I spent several hours on the phone and enjoyed it!   

AND I discovered why. 

I dislike interviews because so many are simply a list of questions.  The interviewer asks a question and no matter what my response, without comment or reaction the interviewer  goes on to the next question.  This can be particularly difficult if HUMOR is the topic.  BUT TODAY it dawned on me.  A good interview is a conversation.   

Chris Watkins from WBSA in Boaz Alabama started today's interview with, "hey I am just a on old southern country boy so if you don't understand something I say just ask me to repeat it."  We proceeded to have a great honest conversation punctuated with laughter and insight.  All of the information that he wanted was revealed as we talked and laughed together.  It wasn't an interview it was a conversation.  I need to remember this when I am speaking to my wife, or you, or a friend, or an employee. 

I am not alone.  Very few people like to be interviewed.   Everybody enjoys a great conversation.  So if we meet on the road somewhere............  TALK TO ME!  By the way, I never understood a word Chris said!

There are times and places where God's hand is so evident that it takes your breath away. A 10 day cruise of the Hawaiian Islands has left me gasping for air.  So did the climb to the top of Diamond Head.  They said the climb would take 45 minutes.  We did it in just under 19 minutes and were rewarded with free oxygen from an EMT guy and this spectacular view.  It was hard to tell what was sky and what was sea.   I didn't hear any people screaming, "There is no God!"  From up there. In fact, I didn't even see anyone dusting for fingerprints to see if he had been there.  He was there.  It was quiet......  except for the hiss of my oxygen.

However, the best of Hawaii is away from the big city where you can see the power of the volcanoes and the beauty that exists where once there was only molten rock.  Get off what ever ship you are on, out of what ever tour bus you are riding and drive and walk.  A short drive from Hilo we found easy access to  Akaka falls, huge lava tubes, and old lake beds of lava that still belched steamy hints of the turmoil below.

We had a great time with our family, the Scheer family, Danny and Betsy de Armas and Derrick and Jennifer Huckleberry.  Our cruise was arranged by Templeton Tours   They are experts in providing quality Christian tours of all kinds.  This is one I will not forget.

The kicker is the trip home.  If God flew home after creation, I really understand why he needed rest.  Especially if he had a layover in Minneapolis.
